Engaging portrait of the author's adolescence through the copious and voluminous notes she wrote to boys -- notes she kept a copies or drafts of. Amusing. At first I wished the author would interrupt her younger self less, and let the notes speak for themselves, but as the book went on the portrait of the author reflecting on her youth became full, and touching as well as often quite funny.

Wince along with Ribon as she tries to understand exactly how she ever thought she'd win a boy's heart by writing him a letter that began: "Share with me your soul," and ends with some remarkably awkward erotica. You'll come for the incredibly bad poetry, you'll stay for the incredibly bad poetry about racism"--P. [4] of cover.… (more)
