It was wonderful to read a book about Lee Stern. He was an amazing man, actually practicing what he preached, which I find highly unusual. I knew nothing of his early years and family, so I very much appreciated that research.

It isn't the best written book around, but since no one else is going to write Lee's story, I am glad Webster did it. I just wish she had had a more diligent editor. I can correct one minor misconception will be found at the bottom of page 298: "He served on the board of the Sandy Spring Friends' Elementary School Education Committee." What he really did would be better expressed as: "He served on the Board of Friends Elementary School in Silver Spring, which was later merged with Sandy Spring Friends School in Sandy Spring. He served on the Education Committee."

The last fifth or sixth of the book was rather boring, spending a lot of time on organizations--important though they were--which Lee helped to get started but in which he played a negligible role, if any. An editor would have either strengthened his ties to the groups or cut the long passages.

The pictures interspersed throughout the book were delightful! ( )
