Portuguese illustrated manuscript from the late 16th century edited in full size fac simile. Also known as "Lisuarte de Abreu Book", contains an anthology of all the portuguese fleets who made the perilous voyage from Portugal to India spanning four continents (due to the Atlantic wind patterns they had to sail near the south-american coast when going to India).
Begins with that of Vasco da Gama in 1497 and ends in 1563. Every fleet takes one or more pages filled with paintings of each ship with reference to its captain and eventually its demise. The pictures are specially important being almost contemporaneous of the depicted ships. ( )
