I enjoy this magazine and while this volume mainly contained unimpressive stories I still took pleasure in my time with it. I Love the book ads and book reviews just as much and maybe in this issue's case, more. Not the best collection of stories this issue but John M Floyd's Secrets stood out handsomely.

1. Almost like Christmas by Joseph Heller - a depressing little story of crime, not a mystery, but more a story of race relations We are never told exactly where, when or what has happened but it can be specified by the end. Main character is a school teacher who probably forced the idea of integration on a town obviously not all were thrilled with the proceedings. . (3/5)

2. Secrets by John M Floyd - "Strangers on a Train"turns into strangers on ferry with a great twist. Loved it. (5/5)

3. Hot Property by Matt Hilton - A guy is hired by parents whose daughter is being held by her "boyfriend" and forced to star in porn movies. Reads like a guy on an ego trip telling how smart and tough he is. Irritating. (2/5)

4. The Deal by Michael and Matthew Palmer - Not too a bad story of a man who tries to rob the "Harpy" only to be caught by her. In exchange for his freedom he accepts the exact date of his death . A Hitchcockian ending. (3/5)

5. A Game Played by Jonathan Rabb - A bit of spy espionage with a twist ending. I think I got it. (2/5)

6. The Preservation of Death by Andrew Lane - A Sherlock Holmes pastiche taking place when Watson is married. A well-written tale that captures the voice of Watson. Involves a dead body but is more of a puzzle to solve than a mystery. (4/5) ( )
