Grave Dancin’ Bob Whetstone. 2006. Janet lent me this book that she read for a book club. As she said, it is a good story but not a great book. It is a family saga that takes place in Tallapoosa County during the early part of the 20th century. After Dora’s two nieces are forced to return to poverty and brutality of their father, Dora moves into town and marries a wealthy widower. The girls join their brother in the cotton fields of their sharecropper father tries to farm and hide from their father during his drunken rages. We follow them into town as they get work in the mills and are forced to give their father most of their pay and he either drinks or gambles it away and see how they eventually escape their wretched lives.
