Listening to A Stroke of Midnight again, I know that I was right: Nicca was mated by the ring to B. ( )

*sigh* I don't we'll ever get Merry or Anita back. Obviously, Hamilton is deliriously happy with her husband and their partners, because as I just posted in my review of [b:Affliction|15985372|Affliction (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #22)|Laurell K. Hamilton|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1350942756s/15985372.jpg|21739817], these two books practically ooze "we're all so much in love" all over the bookshelf. Love and romance, yay. Romance is my favorite genre. But I used to read Merry and Anita because they kicked ass. Now, not so much. Anita is coming back bit by bit, but I fear our Merry is gone forever. ( )

I'm giving this four stars because LKH did pretty much exactly what her fans wanted: BABY STORY. I really also love the worlds she creates. it is very obvious that her writing has dramatically changed in the past five years. I just reread Guilty Pleasures and it was awesome. The writing was so solid...it's almost as if someone else started writing her stories or she just really lost interest in Anita and Merry. I don't like how she seems to fill the pages with the same info over and over. She must have mentioned that the red caps were "between 7-13 feet tall" about eight times...for no reason. The stories just don't come alive for me anymore, but I think LKH introduced zombies way, way before they became the Walking Dead and she deserves accolades for reintroducing the masses to vampires, zombies, and weres. I see her as having had a pretty profound influence on many current writers. ( )

It's awful. Just horrible. And I shall never pick up an LKH book again. ( )

We need negative stars for utter wastes of time. ( )

Epigraph
I feel like one who treads alone. Some banquet hall deserted, whose lights are fled, whose garlands dead, and all but he departed! Thus, in the stilly night, ere slumber's chain has bound me, sad memory brings the light of other days around me. - Thomas Moore

Book description
I am Princess Meredith NicEssus. Legal name Meredith Gentry, because “Princess” looks so pretentious on a driver’s license. I was the first faerie princess born on American soil, but I wouldn't be the only one for much longer...

Merry Gentry, ex–private detective, now full-time princess, knew she was descended from fertility goddesses, but when she learned she was about to have triplets, she began to understand what that might mean. Infertility has plagued the high ranks of faerie for centuries. Now nobles of both courts of faerie are coming to court Merry and her men, at their home in exile in the Western Lands of Los Angeles, because they will do anything to have babies of their own.

Taranis, King of Light and Illusion, is a more dangerous problem. He tried to seduce Merry and, failing that, raped her. He’s using the human courts to sue for visitation rights, claiming that one of the babies is his. And though Merry knows she was already pregnant when he took her, she can’t prove it.

To save herself and her babies from Taranis she will use the most dangerous powers in all of faerie: a god of death, a warrior known as the Darkness, the Killing Frost, and a king of nightmares. They are her lovers, and her dearest loves, and they will face down the might of the high courts of faerie—while trying to keep the war from spreading to innocent humans in Los Angeles, who are in danger of becoming collateral damage.
