I let myself be swept away by "Odinsbarn" and the playful and easy prose that conveyes imaginative ideas, and the ethos of Ymslanda.
Nice and fun names steeped in meaning and norse roots gave an added flavour to my reading experience.

Finally a modern Norwegian fantasy tale to boast about. From a country dominated by the crime gender Siri Pettersen have broken the ice with this shining novel of compassion and companionship. Ym are a fantastic new world with peoples and abilitys harkening back beyond Harry Potter's and J.R.R Tolkien fantasy worlds.

The world of Ym are not like ours, the people have an ability to sense their world in a way we may never comprehend. Still they're not so different from our selves.
The regions of Ymslanda are described vividly with a somewhat vague web of roads. The undefined bounderies of Ymslanda fit well with maps out of our time and world.
Hirka "Taleless" becomes a symbol in the powerstruggle between Ravnhof and Mannfalla. Her abilities, or lack theirof, becomes a rallying point for conformism and feer of the alien. Conversly they're a glimmer of hope for the opposition to the greater powers that be.

This is a novel about Hirka and the struggle against Mannfalla's hegemony. Some of the periferal characters comes out somewhat unidimensional. Especially the sick Urd Vanfarinn comes out spineless, he's hard to tail and understand in one peace.

I seek Science Fiction and Fantasy that focus on trends in our society.
"Odinsbarn"takes on otherness and of beeing on the outskirts in a society filled with feer of the alien, intrigues and powerstruggles in a new and novel way.

I like "Odinsbarn" very well. Hirka and Rime steps forth as nice persons struggeling for a better world. This Novel is a thrill to read with a clear plotline.

Du rare, bakerst i klassen.

Hjemme. Trygg nå.
