Nothing strikes a cord faster in a car enthusiasts' mind as the word Holley. From beefed up street cars to the fastest racing cars, Holley carburetors have blazed a trail through performance car history.

David Vizar has shared with us in his book How to Super Tune and Modify HOLLEY Carburetors wriiten for SA Design, his years of experience squeezing every bit of performance out of a Holley carburetor. The book covers the 4150-Series, Double Pumper, HP, Avenger, Ultra and Dominator carburetors.

David's introduction is a brief history of his work from its humble beginnings leading up to his introduction to Holley. From there you get right into carburetion starting with the basics. Then you move into carburetion principles, calibration of mileage, various fuels and idle and transition, full-power and accelerator pump circuits. Also covered are ram air and heat management, fuel systems, air flow, intake port matching and so much more. Numerous charts in the book show all types of performance, illustrations, tech tips. Rounding the book out is a source guide on the last page.

I am amazed at all the valuable information and lessons packed into this book. Yes it does cover specific Holley carburetors, but so much of the information can be applied to other caburetors. this is a valuable tool for any mechanics bookshelf.

I did recieve a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. ( )

If you are old enough to remember when cars had carburetors, you’ll enjoy this book, even if you are not rebuilding a Holley. You certainly will learn how carbs work, and how to rebuild and tune one - way beyond just listening and adjusting with a screwdriver. Great book, fantastic pictures. ( )

This book is a great book for the novice mechanic but may not be enough new information for the seasoned mechanic. It is written in an easy to read style with lots of colorful pictures and diagrams. It shows the Holley model but also others for those just learning about carburetors. ( )
