A DNF book - I really didn't want this one to turn into a "did not finish" book, but I've come to the realization that I have to put it down.

The concept of this book is great, different, and it makes for some enjoyment inside the pages, but there are many things working against it. The major issue I've been having is that I'm about 40% into the book and it's already very repetitive. There's a meeting, then a party, then a meeting, then a party. There's some progress made in developing the "House of Roosters" at each meeting, and a little new story development at each party, but it's minimal at best. I think this could work out better as a novella, and by cutting most of the repeated scenes. I'm able to see what will start happening, but I've been slowly losing interest in reading far enough to see it occur.

Another thing I found that irked me was the transitions. There really weren't any smooth transitions between a change in place or even time. One paragraph would be in the MC's house, the next would be a meeting or party. There's be no chapter break (the easiest and obvious fix) or even a transition sentence. The chapters also seemed to include too many scenes that should have been their own chapters.

This is labeled as an erotic novel, but I feel that it's only said to be erotic because there are many sex scenes. These scenes don't really feel erotic to me though. There's sex, and some "kinky" sex at times, but there's more to something being erotic than just having two (or more) people having sex. The writing was full of "telling" and not much "showing" which in my opinion hurts when it comes to erotica, but it also hurt my reading of a majority of the book due to it really just being the MC, Melissa, listing out what happens.

Wanted to like it. Definitely something different. But I just didn't feel that the author's writing lived up to what it could.
