The quality of the writing in this book was not terrible, but it wasn't great. There were a lot of typos that slipped past the spell-checker. For example, the author had a habit of separating words that should have been combined, like "side walk" and "no where." In one instance, a question ended with a period. What really mattered, though, was the pacing. The book description says it's "action packed," but parts of it are kind of boring. Maybe I felt that way because I expected there to be a lot more magic in the book. Instead, it was almost entirely focused on Rebecca's quest to protect the girl. The girl's personality wasn't fleshed out very well, but the author made it easy to sympathize with her. I liked these two characters, which is why I finished the book. I wanted to see how it ended. Unfortunately, the major conflict in the story was resolved too easily. This was the most action packed sequence and it was over fairly quickly. If Carl Purcell could find a better editor than Jim Parsons to fix the typos and smooth out the pacing, this would be a decent book.
