Valentine Westridge and Kurt Schillig fought together in the Peninsular War. Only those who have been to war understand the horrors that men live through. Valentine and Kurt learned to seek each other for comfort and became lovers. The war ended and they became intent on starting a life together. They want a home in the country, horses, dogs, and children.
A friend of theirs told them about a widow, Leah, who might welcome their suit and help them to become the family that they wanted. Leah was having trouble supporting herself and her two children. She feared that she would end up having to marry her abusive brother-in-law and hated that idea.
The second story is about Lady Vanessa Carlton-Smythe who was jilted by her fiancé. She is slowly coming to the age where a woman is thought to be "on the shelf". She has been raised to be a member of the upper class and is expected to marry a Duke. Since no Dukes seem to be available she believes that she will never marry anyone that wants her and not just her name and wealth. She is at a party when se sees two men flirting with a woman. Later they approach her and one of the men asks her to dance. She is open to them and to the idea that they want HER not just her name and status.
Both stories are very erotic with threesomes being the 'norm'. The characters are well written and the stories certainly capture your imagination and attention. I have enjoyed each one of the Brother in Arms books by Samantha Kane. ( )
