Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0816011931, Hardcover)

"Brandnames: Who Owns What" is designed to provide the consumer and businessperson with an easily accessible guide to the corporation that ultimately owns each product. Other reference works dealing with the structure of the modern corporation link the product with the subsidiary that produces it. This subsidiary in turn is owned by a larger parent corporation. By using "Brandnames," the researcher can easily uncover the ultimate owner of the product and at the same time get an overview of the modern large corporation in its diversity. Two of the criteria used for inclusion here are, first, size, and second, that the company be listed on one of the major U.S. stock exchanges, i.e., the New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange or traded Over The Counter. "Brandnames" includes entries on more than 700 major consumer corporations, with each entry containing a brief historical description of the company. The main portion of each entry is a listing and description of all consumer brands the company and its subsidiaries produce. The information in this volume was obtained from corporate annual reports and business periodicals, i.e., Standard & Poors, Moody's statistical services, etc. These sources are believed to be reliable, but their accuracy and completeness are not guaranteed. The book has been indexed to help the reader locate information either by the company's name or brand name product. [From the Introduction]
