The second in a trilogy finds Max and friends enmeshed in several mysteries, while continuing to unfold the tale of his missing parents. It's well-done and engaging, but I still don't believe in the reality of the chameleon-like title character, and it's a little long--by the end of the book I'd forgotten the clues that revealed the identity of a major character.
