12 year old Max supports himself by taking on the character "Mr. Max- solutioneer" who can solve problems- even for the town's mayor. His biggest mystery to solve however, involves not knowing where his parents are, if they are safe and how to help them. Strange messages are sent about them being crowned the new royalty in a tiny country in far-off South America, plagued by civil unrest and clues are well- disguised. Max is good at problem-solving though, so he works on this largest problem as he tackles arson in the city, mysterious females and a captain worried about his family. Problems are intriguing enough to hold interest, especially when danger is involved. This 355 page book is good for grades 5-8. ( )
