This is a short, fun variation on the legend of Zeus and Ganymede. This time, Zeus is a very humanoid alien from space and Ganymede is a rock star. The slightly humorous tone of the retold tale made me smile. Hera makes an appearance as second-in-command of the spaceship, and even Eros is part of the cast.

Ganymede may be a successful rock star, but he isn’t happy. His manager told him not to reveal he’s gay, and this makes Ganymede very lonely. When his life is saved by Zeus he is extremely grateful, as well as totally taken by the “godlike” body of the alien.

Zeus is in command – in every respect. Even though it is a spaceship this time, not Mount Olympus, the effect is the same. Even the personalities of the “gods” are the same as in the Greek mythology. I liked the references to Zeus’s species being an old one and having “supervised” human development – keeping the basic structure of the old legends intact.

While the plot is simple and stays true to the original story, the execution made me smile. Zeus and Ganymede are very hot together, and if you’re looking for a brief, fun retelling of an old myth, then you will probably like this short story.
