This is a wonderful story on so many levels: the main characters are great guys, the two wolf pups are, of course, adorable, the villain is appropriately evil (and then some), and the overall message of love and acceptance winning the day is the icing on the cake. If you're looking for feel-good, this is an option you should seriously consider.

Skylar is a snake shifter, not one of the best-understood, nor most-liked species. He also grew up in the wild, as a snake, until he was twelve, and that made his socialization even more difficult. Not that he minds living on his own in the woods, but he isn’t exactly happy. I loved the way he took care of the abandoned wolf shifter pups, defending them against everyone who wanted to harm them. He's a really nice guy and a great fighter for the rights of the oppressed.

Brady is a wolf shifter, and the only one Skylar can think of to call to help him figure out what to do about the shifter puppies. Brady is more than happy to help, and as he and Skylar work together, the previous misunderstandings dissolve and they start admitting how attracted they are to each other. Brady likes Skylar a lot more than Skylar realized and turns into a wonderful supporter and co-fighter.

If you like sweet stories about lonely men who find love and acceptance, if you enjoy reading about different types of shifters, their politics, and attempts to co-exist, and if you're looking for a read that is as sweet as it is hope-inspiring, you will probably like this (much too short) short story as much as I did.

Liked but didn't love this one; felt a little more tell than show. ( )
