"Let me walk you back to your aunt's house." he said. She took the hand offered and felt that same thrill of excitement that she had felt at the waterhole. She told herself that it was a long time since she had held a man's hand and did not notice that Nick had felt something as well.

They walked down the short distance to her aunt's house and Nick asked if her brother had his own horse. "Yes" she said “A good strong working stallion."

"I forgot to ask his name." he said as he turned to her at the door.

"Hank" she said "Hank Campbell." She pushed down the feeling of guilt at the deception. It was necessary.
"Thank you for a lovely evening." she said.

Nick found that suddenly he was curling one of those wayward strands of hair between his fingers. It seemed that his hands had made the decision themselves. This girl was so close and so attractive that for the first time in a very long while Nick Carson was not as cool and in control as he liked to be. He kissed her lightly on the lips to say goodnight and then the thunderbolt rolled inside his head. ( )
