Northern Lights - Outstanding Canadian Women, is a quick and easy read. It presents short bios (2 to 3 pages each, at the most) of 43 women who have excelled in their particular areas, including journalism, law, education, politics, business, the arts, sports, medicine and sciences, among others. There are many names in this list of 43 that I admittedly never heard of. But the more familiar names include journalists Sally Armstrong and Doris Anderson, astronaut Julie Payette, athletes Catriona Le May Doan and Colleen Jones, educators Jean Augustine and Avis Glaze, musician Natalie McMaster, actor Louise Pitre, comedian and writer Mary Walsh.

None of the bios goes into a lot of depth but each begins with a bit of childhood background, the path followed and possible obstacles met and overcome along the way. At the end of each piece, there is a short list of *insights* by each woman.

Overall, this was an interesting read. ( )
