I enjoyed this short prequel novella. It tells two stories. One is the story of the case that Jess just completed. The other is the story of running into her old love when she returns to Birmingham to visit family for Christmas. This meeting has been mentioned several times in the book, so it was nice to read about it. And the case story is very exciting too.

Even though this is a prequel, I think it reads best after you have read some of the other books in the series. That way you will know the characters and the story will have more meaning. I love this series even though I sometimes what to kick Jess in the butt for being so stubborn. Looking forward to the next book. ( )
