Contemporary Italian art, much of which is still desiderata for researchers and the global exhibition landscape, has been the subject of discussion since the eighties. Based on selected works from The Schaufler Collection, this publication provides an overview of contemporary art in Italy. It focuses on historical, fictive, visual, and thematic encounters of Italian artists with contemporaries that have been grouped into succinct stances and arranged according to aspects such as space, design, color, material, or photography. What significance is assigned to contemporary Italian art in the context of, for instance, galleries and museums, and in particular at the Venice Biennale and the documenta? Parallels to others movements, distinguishing characteristics, and the relevance of Italian art for the development of international art since the fifties are examined. Artists featured (selection): Monica Bonvicini, Lucio Fontana, Helen Frankenthaler, Alberto Garutti, Julia Mangold, Nam June Paik, Mimmo Paladino, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Mario Schifano, Ettore Spalletti, Günther Uecker Exhibition schedule: Schauwerk Sindelfingen, October 20, 2013-September 14, 2014… (more)
