Had become a bit bored with autobiographies of "then I did this" "then I met ..." but this is a wonderful book of political times in recent history telling of incidents that "people of a certain age" will remember well. Very informative and enjoyable only touching on what was happening in the author's life in passing but telling in detail of what was happening in the world at that time. Written by a clever, modest and amusing man, this is an enjoyable and informative book that I couldn't put this book down ( )

An excellent and entertaining book that gives quite an amusing and informative insight into politics and politicians. Spanning a period of UK Political activity which saw great changes in the World overall and in Britain in particular, it makes quite a contribution in understanding what was happening particularly in the period when Thatcher was Prime Minister. Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0330484907, Paperback)

John Sergeant's acclaimed memoir takes us from his somewhat eccentric childhood to his thirty years' service with the BBC. Memorably handbagged by Margaret Thatcher on the steps of the Paris Embassy as she lost the leadership contest, and the man to whom Ron Davis confessed his midnight perambulations on Clapham Common, Sergeant has been the man on the spot in most of the major news stories of the last twenty years. His mordant wit, keen sense of the absurd and acute powers of analysis pervade the book and his understanding of the labyrinthine workings of Westmister - and of the corridors of Broadcasting House - is second to none.
