The closet thing I've found is Sara Donati's Into the Wilderness series that even has a cameo of Claire Fraser in it. 20/50 into the wilderness bu Sara Donati. Great! This was an interesting book to read with the outlander series read not so long ago...I think that I liked this book better than Dragonfly in Amber but possibly not as much as outlander ... else even vaguely academic sounding)

This week I am listening to Outlander in the car, Into The Wilderness by Sara Donati while I walk and do housework and knitting and I am reading The Perils Of Pleasure by Julie Anne Long. It has been on my TBR ... ... in a zoo and exploring religion. Then the ship wreck happened and I hated it!
I've been reading the Sara Donati Wilderness Series recently (to fill the Diana Gabaldon void until the next book is released) I'm up to the third one Lake in the Clouds. I might take a break after ... For relaxation, rereading Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati also known as Rosina Lippi who is a Library Thing Author. It is a historical novel with a character from the last of the Mohicans and it has a strong, feisty feminist heroine.
This makes 85. #4 - I LOVED Donati's Into the Wilderness series and the Outlander series (though I still have to finish the last two--I'm struggling with The Fiery Cross).
If anyone has any recommendations for similar books or series please post them! I saw Into the Wilderness posted a couple of times here. I just wanted you to know, I've read the whole series and devoured them in similar fashion to the Outlander Series. Sara Donati does a wonderful job!! ... and Dragonfly in Amber Now I can't wait to get started after reading all your posts. Also, I definitely ran across Into the wilderness at the library but I can;t remember if I got it or not because I buy alot of books. Have to finish up A for Alibi and possibly Personal Injuries ... Okay, I only got one book done Into the Wilderness. I've had a few weeks of off and on sick kiddos. Sounds like a lot of awesome books being read. I'd love to look into your book #3. Sounds great!

Emily ... Hi ktleyed --
Into the Wilderness is very loosely based on The Pioneers, which is one of the novels in the Leatherstocking Tales by James Fenimore Cooper. So it's not a sequel to The Last of the Mohicans. An early reviewer called it a sequel and so lots of people seem to have that idea.
... Just completed Into the Wilderness. Loved it!! It was really an interesting story and if any of you are Outlander fans, you will really enjoy this series. Also, you'll catch several characters from Outlander in the story. It is not as technical as Outlander but very interesting indeed.
... Hello everyone!! I am currently in the middle of three books and hope to have them read by end of Jan. Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, and Thirteen Moons by Charles Frazier.
My goals are not really to read more books, but more different books ... Neat, I didn't know Donati was here on LT! I read Into the Wilderness earlier this year and enjoyed it. I remember hearing/being told the book ties in with the The Last of the Mohicans but I never knew if there were overlapping characters, or if the subject matter was merely similar. I'm planning on reading Into the Wilderness after I read Last of the Mohicans which is on my list. It's a sequel to it, isn't it? A few days ago I bought Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati. I have already read it but originally borrowed it from the library. The only one of the series I own (because I was too impatient at the time to get it from the library is Dawn on a Distant Shore. I have now decided I really must ... ... next 3: The Drums of Autumn, The Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes and I am feeling an urge to re-read the Into the Wilderness series by Sara Donati too...
