From the author of the best-selling Harry Hole series comes an electrifying tale of vengeance set amid Oslo's brutal hierarchy of corruption.

Sonny Lofthus has been in prison for almost half his life: serving time for crimes he didn't commit. In exchange, he gets an uninterrupted supply of heroinand a stream of fellow prisoners seeking out his Buddha-like absolution. Years earlier Sonnys father, a corrupt cop, took his own life rather than face exposure. Now Sonny is the center of a vortex of corruption: prison staff, police, lawyers, a desperate priestall of them focused on keeping him stoned and jailed. When Sonny discovers a shocking truth about his fathers suicide, he makes a brilliant escape and begins hunting down the people responsible for his and his fathers demise. But he's also being hunted, and by enemies too many to count. Two questions remain: who will get to him first, and what will he do when hes cornered?

Love this author. Smart. Good character development and plotting. If you like Stigg Larsen, you'll like Jo Nesbo. ( )

If you hate your corrupt government like I do, this may appeal to you, as it did to me. Love and greed for money is ruling Norway as much as New Russia, so Nesbø has lots of fodder for his works. In this story, the son of a policeman who "suicided" (read: got put out of the way) and had always aspired to be as upright and crime-fighting as his father, has lost all ganas to live. He's a professional fall-guy and heroin addict, serving multiple sentences in prison for crimes he didn't commit. He's also a father-confessor to his fellow convicts, who ask him to absolve them of their bad deeds. As such, one convict, while confessing his crimes, lets him know that his father did not suicide as he believed, but was killed to prevent him from putting the finger on his chueco fellow officer. This changes his whole life trajectory, and now he's got a lot of getting-even to do. Just a fabulously entertaining thriller that will keep you turning the pages. ( )

I liked this book a lot, probably more than the Harry Hole series. The endings were sad and unexpected. It's pretty dark, as are all of his books, but also, like all his books, , the story kept my attention throughout. It was hard to put down towards the end.

Fín spennusaga. Illa farinn strákur í fangelsi sleppur út og kemst að því að hann hefur verið hafður fyrir rangri sök. Í leit sinni að sannleikanum byrjar æðisgenginn eltingarleikur þar sem valdamiklir aðilar vilja gera allt sem í þeirra valdi stendur til að þagga niður í honum. ( )
