Fiction. Horror. Science Fiction. Zombies. The outbreak began in New York. Soon it had spread to the rest of the world. People were attacked, infected and they died. Then they came back. Nowhere is safe from the undead. As anarchy and civil war took grip across the globe, Britain was quarantined. The press was nationalised. Martial law, curfews and rationing were implemented. It wasn't enough. An evacuation was planned. The inland towns and cities of the UK would be evacuated to defensive enclaves being built around the coast, in the Scottish Highlands and in the Irish Republic.Bill Wright broke his leg on the day of the outbreak. Unable to join the evacuation, he watched from his window as the streets filled with refugees, he watched as the streets emptied once more. He watched as they filled up again, this time with the undead. Then the power went out.He is trapped. He is alone. He is running out of food and water. He knows that to reach the safety of the enclaves he will have to venture out into the wasteland that once was England. On that journey he will ultimately discover the horrific truth about the outbreak, a decades old conspiracy and his unwitting part in it.This is the first volume of his journal. Ok, it's a zombie book and I usually don't like zombie books. But, this book is good! At least most of it. There are times it's boring, when-when the author goes into too much detail about Bill's life before the zombies came....but luckily that is few and far between.

Bill doesn't take part in the evacuation due to a broken leg. Now he is the only living human in London. From his window he watches as the undead lumber past his home. He knows he will have to leave soon, he is almost out of food and water, but how? He's on crutches, in a cast, and moves slower than the zombies. ( )

well, it was a bit different.. for a zombie story. But I just didn't like the main character very much, someone else describes him as being whiney, which I agree with, but self-obsessed would be a better description. A lot of it didn't really make a lot of sense when I look back.. think I might give the rest as miss.. ( )

The author was kind enough to gift me a copy of his book. This book is being offered for free, in exchange for an honest review at Making Connections. Get your copy here.

What I liked:

the way the author chose to tell the story-journal of a survivor during a zombie infestation. It might be difficult to keep the reader interested but I had fun reading it.

the gradual change in Bill's journal entries-he begins with believing that his MP friend would be sending a car for him to learning to fend for himself, once he realizes help won't be coming.

the part about Sam & how it affected the way Bill reacted to the plight of other survivors.

What I didn't like:

the origin of the outbreak was just too expected or typical. I also think maybe the author could have kept that part for the next book.

Fans of slow moving zombies & stories styled as journal entries should definitely give this one a try.
