I love the way this author writes…a fact that can be substantiated by the great number of her books I have read just this month:) We have all the makings of a great mystery…a mansion…a wealthy family with weird interactions…murder… and threats and revelations. As I said earlier…it’s more a mystery than a romance, although the romance was there but didn’t take over the entire story….but be aware that the romance in these books feature same sex couples. There were new turns to the story every few pages that managed to completely destroy each of my assumptions of how the story would end. I did come to the right conclusion... but not until the next to the last chapter. Josh Lanyon’s books are always really good mysteries that can be counted on to be entertaining, and will usually throw many unexpected curves in your detective skills. Overall it was a really fun book. 4.5 Stars A new Josh Lanyon is like a rich decadent dessert, you want to take your time and savor each bite, but once you start you can't stop till you devoured the whole thing. I started this on Monday after work and finished on Tuesday wrapped up in the story of young Bryan Arlington's kidnapping and Griff Hadley's desire to write a book about the case. Lanyon's writing is elegant, I willingly followed his tale to the end, and even though I was positive I had solved the mystery of Bryan's disappearance very early in the book, it did not in any way detract from my pleasure in the reading of this story. My only disappointment was that it did end - I wanted more.
Twenty years ago, little Brian Arlington was kidnapped from his family's Long Island estate and was never seen again. The trail went cold, but investigative journalist Griff Hadley has always thought there was more to the storymuch more. When the Arlingtons' patriarch invites him to stay at their estate to research his true crime book, Griff can't say no. It's the story of a lifetime. But not everyone is happy about Griff's presence. Relatives and staff alike regard him coldly, including Pierce Mather, the Arlingtons' attractive lawyer, who is more than a little wary of Griff's motives. When a stranger shows up claiming to be the long-lost Brian, Griff and Pierce are united in their suspicions. Startled to have found an ally in the buttoned-up lawyer, Griff soon realizes it's hard to keep a professional distance.
