Alexander is undeniably biased towards Sylvia in the conflict with her husband Ted Hughes which resulted in her tragic suicide. Certainly, Hughes' ingrained sexism was a contributing cause to her plight, but, given the times, how many men would have behaved differently towards her need to write? As for his infidelity, well, that's a whole 'nother issue. ( )

Of all the books I have read avout the life of Sylvia Plath I think this one does the best job of giving you a good overview of Sylvia life. If you only have time to read on book about her this is the one to read. ( )

I've always been fascinated by Sylvia Plath. This was one of the first biographies of her written without the authorization of her husband, the late Ted Hughes. As such it gives a very different view of her personality and especially of her marriage than some others out there. I liked it.
