The comics collected were originally published in 2002. The commentary dates from 2006, and is already, as it were, dated. So we have a book with ephemeral cartoons from the last, accompanied by ephemeral commentary from the slightly more recent past. Merideth says: The third volume of the popular web-comic Penny Arcade, collecting strips from 2002, continues the pair's obsession with video games, science fiction and horror. This volume continues the trends set by the first two collections of the web-comic. Continuity is practically unheard of, violence and foul language endure, and the humor speaks mostly to the geeky, gaming sector of the population. This volume continues the trends set by the first two collections of the web-comic. The third Penny Arcade collection offers yet another fascinating insight into the world of computer gamers. This collection is from 2002, but is accompanied with up to date commentary from late 2006, bringing context to what is being read. At least up to date today. I look forward to 2010, when reading a comic written in 2002 with commentary from 2006 will no doubt prove highly interesting. Some of the strips suffer the penalty of their ephemeral content, but much of this collection remains readable, relevant and entertaining today. no reviews | add a review
