This is the third book in this series and I rated it slightly higher than the first two because the series as a whole for me has become one of those stories I think about even when I am not reading it. The beginning of this book was so sad and had me turning the pages just to see what would happen next and when this young man would be freed from his torture.

Jeremiah Reborn starts out in a prison wagon headed to the Yuma prison. The year is 1876 and Jeremiah is only 16 years old. The prison wagon overturns down a canyon, being chased by Indians. Jeremiah will eventually awake to a rope around his neck and his hands tied and blindfolded. He will be walked for days, no one talking to him and the rope strangling him if he doesn't keep up. Finally he figures it out; his captor has taken him to a cave to dig gold out for him. Jeremiah will live in this cave, be drugged to sleep each night and live in darkness. When he is finally released he finds himself half crazy with rope burns, fear of the dark and the inability to relate to people. He will though find a ranch to work on and the folks you have come to know and love from books 1 and 2 will help Jeremiah heal as best he can.

Emily Johnson is leaving finishing school back East and joining her grandmother in Cedar Ridge as she is failing in her health. Jeremiah and Emily will find an attraction to each other and their love will grow. But something unbelievable will be discovered by them both which will leave them both facing the greatest trial they must face as man and wife. Can they trust in God and their love for each other to see them through?

This was a story line that was quite different and very interesting. You can read it as a stand alone easy enough, but the other two before it are just as good, so I always recommend reading a series in the order they were written. You will be glad you did. Now on the the final book in this series, "Colorado Evening Sky". ( )
