Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0985102314, Paperback)Silje Reiersen has spent most of her childhood fighting strange phenomena that occasionally attempt to take over her mind. When she enters adolescence and attends a small town high school, these episodes are compounded by criminal forces in the external world. Children are being kidnaped. When one of her classmates is taken, Silje's inner self is forced to readjust. When another classmate disappears, Silje unwittingly becomes part of the investigation. In the 1950s, organizational resources to help people living in rural areas was minimal at best. Law enforcement was just beginning to develop needed tools to investigate crimes. Individuals, especially children who had mental problems had to find ways of dealing with these themselves, because the fear of not being understood, or worse yet, the fear of being ridiculed was ever present. This coming-of-age story shows a young country girl struggling not only with all the usual issues of growing up, but also with an inner self that must constantly be controlled by her conscious mind so that it doesn't dominate her existence.
