This book is for beginning readers. They learn the alphabet through pictures and a fun story about what the little letters can do by themselves.
  MKHowell | Sep 15, 2010 |
Charley is on vacation at his grandparents' house, so he has no need for his "set" of alphabet letters. They decided to go back to their hometown, and when they visit a fire station to try to help with the fire hose, they end up making a mess instead. The capital letters say that they have no use for them, so the lower case letters decide to clean up an old fire truck and be their own fire fighters. When the capital letters are in trouble, the lowercase letters come to save the day.

When the capital letters don't allow the little letters to help in the fire station, the little letters set out on their own adventure. They help other letters throughout the town. When an accident happens to the capital letters, the little letters and their fire truck run to the rescue. ( )

I like that most pages could lead to a phonics lesson. Also, the illustrations are very detailed and vibrant. ( )

Charlie is finally on break from school, which means the alphabet he has been using all year is also on vacation. While Charlie goes to visit his grandparents, the alphabet went to Alphabet City to have some fun of their own. While in the city beyond the moon, the letters become heroes and rescued a fire engine. At the end of their trip, it was time to go back to Charlie because he needed help to read and write again in order to tell his grandparents thank you, thank you, thank you.
