Love, in English is a contemporary romance about the ultimate forbidden love story, from the NYT bestselling author of The Pact and Before I Ever Met You. To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she'd spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love. Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she's usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Spanish charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something . . . more. Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time. Something that can never, ever be. Or so she thinks. Contains mature themes.… (more)

I read (and loved) The Forbidden Man - where Mateo and Vera appear - so I was excited to read their love story.

I liked Vera - she made a few bad choices in the book, but they actually made sense for her Character. I really like Mateo!!! I think ultimately, Vera was a bit too young to hold my interest. Yes, this is a age-gap romance, but it was only from Vera's perspective and I would have appreciated Mateo's thoughts on the events as they happened. There is a book from his perspective which I plan to read.

Overall, I was a bit disappointed but ultimately glad I decided to read this book. I look forward to more from Karina Halle. ( )

Just avoid the damn book is my advice. I thought Love, in English would be good, I was looking forward to reading it. But God almighty, it was like reading a fanfiction story, and not even a very good one. I can't believe that I actually managed to finish the book. But I did, and my first thought was to give the book two stars, but honestly the more I thought about it I realized that it was not worth it.

I won't even waste my time writing a long review, there are many good ones on Goodreads already and I don't want to waste more time on the book, I just want to get on with my life with a new book... ( )

I wanted to love this book. I really did, but unfortunately for me it was a DNF.

The story was a about a young woman going to Spain to teach English. There she meets older, married man Mateo and they begin to fall for one another.

-> Keyword being married. I don't usually mind cheating in books, but this one rubbed me the wrong way. I prefer the married person to push the other away showing some sort of devotion to their spouse. Not Mateo... He pursued Vera and pushed his wife away. This was a very unattractive characteristic. When the book boyfriend loses his appeal I check out.

Vera however, intrigued me. She was real and I liked that a lot. I enjoyed reading about her emotions and how she realized that Mateo was off limits. Eventually though she gave in.

About halfway through I had to close the book. At that point I expected some sort of excuse to why Mateo was so uninterested in his wife. Was she mean? Had she cheated? Something to make me feel okay with him being with Vera.

The writing was good, but the storyline really fell short for me. ( )

This is the 2nd book I have read outside the EIT series. I love Karina's books. Her words grip you and pull you into another world. She can describe things that you can only imagine. Vera is a wild child that is the definition of a free spirit. Mateo oh what can one say about this sexy Spaniard. He is the epitome of what love can be. This is a slow burn type of story. You are dying for Vera and Mateo to do something other than pine for each other and when it happens .... wow.... just wow. When you see how her Mother is you understand why she is so rebellious. Mateo is what every girl dreams of for a partner. Loving, caring, and pure romance. ( )
