My reaction to reading this book in 1992.

A pleasant, informative read. Bridge writes in a pleasing, often sardonic and blackly humorous style and has a nice eye for detail. The epic seiges of Rhodes in 1522 and Malta in 1566 are wonderfully recreated as are the concise details of the intrigues of the Ottoman court. The book gives a good picture of Christian disunity and the threat -- the greatest ever -- Islam and the Turks were under Suleiman ( )
