This book is about a charming mouse who seeks refuge in an old theater. He falls in love with dance and wins the heart of a prima ballerina. I could use this book to help discuss fantasy. I could also use this book to talk about dancing and the origin of where it started and the different forms of dance that are expressed today. ( )

This is a modern fantasy children's book about a small mouse who escaped the chasing of a cat and ended up in a dance theater. The mouse begins to take great delight in the music and movement of the people on stage. But soon, is chased away by people wanting to rid the theater of the mouse. However, this brings the mouse to a small room. The mouse finds this room to be cozy and rests in the slipper of a ballet student. As the mouse awakes he sees the young girl in her ballet outfit preparing to go on stage. He begins to wonder how she is able to move her leg so high and move so well. When the young girl, Celeste, is called out of her room the mouse searches to find food for the girl and leaves it on her desk. He waits to see from afar how she likes the food, but she looks rather puzzled by it. As the story continues, the mouse searches for other things to please the young girl such as ribbon, sequins. One day while she is warming up in her room the mouse and the girl become close to one another, naturally the mouse runs thinking he will be unwanted by the girl. However, later in the story the mouse returns to the girl and the girl keeps the mouse safe in her shoe as a pet and together they move and dance. ( )
