WATER is a smart little boardbook. It's illustrated in bright cheerful colors and what I really like about it is that it has lots of things to share with children.

The topic is water, of course, and the book explores this topic in a number of ways. Children are shown drinking water and playing in water. Water falls from the sky and is found in rivers and lakes, and coming out of sprinklers and spigots.

"Drop from clouds. Drip from sink.
Water to play. Water to drink."

The illustrations add to this. They show the connection between water and life as children are seen watering plants and gazing at turtles and fish.

And the dual nature of water as something for play and work is also made. Water can, after all, get us muddy and messy as well as get us all clean.

I just really like this boardbook because it is so multifaceted. With older babies and younger toddlers you can point out objects and name them. There are duckies and fish, cats and dogs. Plus you can point out objects like sprinklers and boats.

When children get a little older and are ready for more sophisticated topics you can discuss the rain cycle, and how water is so important to life. Plus you can point out the contrasts and functionality of water mentioned previously.

Very nice book. This would definitely be one I'd suggest for the home shelves or for preschool and kindergarten school rooms.

Drop from clouds.

Drip from sink.

Water to play.

Water to drink!

Water and its life-sustaining magic are joyfully presented in this book for babies and toddlers: from puddles to pools, rivers to tubs, inspiration for the next generation of swimmers, sailors, and biologists. From the award-winning Baby Unplugged series, dedicated to simple yet developmentally stimulating childhood icons and experiences, healthy alternatives to screen-based media. Such experiences are increasingly viewed as essential for healthy development, yet at risk with the encroachment of "educational" screen-based media, linked to epidemic child health and behavior problems.
