4189 The Visitable Past A Wartime Memoir, by Leon Edel (read 16 July 2006) This is the famed Henry James biographer's memoir of his time in the Army from 1943 till V-E Day. He was in a psychological war unit, and went into France four weeks after D-day. He had spent 1928 to 1931 in France as a student and could talk French and was a thoroughgoing intellectual and his account of his time is of high interest and he did a good job as a tech sergeant. The author died in 1997 and this was not published until 2000. It is a very literate and well-written account of his interesting war which I much enjoyed. War memoirs are a favorite genre of mine.
