Alas, I have no Daphne du Maurier books, although I did read Rebecca in high school and a collection of short stories - one of which was set in Venice with two perfectly ghoulish old ladies. I aspire to be a perfectly ghoulish old lady when I grow up, that is if I don't become a bag lady ... ... ago and am looking forward to reaquainting myself with them soon plus all those I have never read. One of my favourites is Rebecca, both the book and the film.
I greatly enjoyed My Cousin Rachel, but not as much as Rebecca, which I loved. Du Maurier is most certainly an author I must read more of! I really do reccomend Out Stealing Horses, I think you'd enjoy it! Beautifully written.

I had read this book 30 some years ago in a high school English class. However, that was many years before Forster's biography of DduM, revealing that she was bisexual. Rereading Rebecca in his light, certainly has put a new meaning into the relationship ... ... but I'm still in ghost story mode: also got The Oxford Book of English Ghost Stories for $2, and a copy of Du Maurier's Rebecca, as the Wall St. Journal has recently admonished us to take her more seriously. Another book on the 'books everyone but me has already read' list. Absolutely nothing like I expected. (I grew up seeing it advertised in ... I have got to reread Rebecca after all of this discussion. I was about to read her first novel The Loving Spirit. All right -- I finished Rebecca. I really enjoyed it -- not as much as I would have enjoyed it during my gothic novel kick at age 15, but enjoyed it nevertheless. (It was better written than a lot of the gothic novels I was devouring then, too, which helps.) Now I have to go remember which ... I finally finished Sebastian Darke. It was all right, but didn't really hold my attention. Now I've started on Rebecca. I've heard so much about it that I thought I should try it. I really like it so far! @#27: In the words of Comic Book Guy, "Greatest. Satire. Ever."
Finished Rebecca and just starting The Comfort of Strangers. Might need to take another Early Reviewers break after the McEwan. I'm rereading Rebecca right now (this is about the third time). Very surprised at how it has changed for me. I used to despise the no name narrator, now I'm finding I view her much more compassionately. I'm enjoying it very much. You know Cariola, I have been meaning to try out an audio book but I am yet to really get into it. I got Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier but I only listened to just a few chapters and then I never went back. I mean to go back and listen to all of it one of these days. #253 I agree with Teresa40. If you are enjoying Jamaica Inn, you will love Rebecca. It's her masterpiece. #253 I'm loving Jamaica Inn, find it difficult to put down to feed the kids. You should read Rebecca, it's fantastic. Went by the library and picked up Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier and The War at the End of the World by Mario Vargas Llosa. Just finished:

Rebecca is great too! My choice for an "R" book would have to be Rebecca. The movie is fantastic, too. #55 and 60: Ditto on The Poisonwood Bible and Rebecca. Loved them both. ... a month ago and cannot recommend it highly enough! It was phenomenal...tied for the best read of 2008 so far (other is Rebecca, a book I meant to read for years before I finally did). Reading has been easier I recently read Rebecca for the first time and I am currently in the midst of multiple books including Cranford, The Three Sisters and A Time of Gifts. I am pleased to note that ... I finished Rebecca and Provincial Daughter and just started The Three Sisters I was browsing the other day and found a sequel to Rebecca that looked fairly interesting, Rebecca's Tale... couldn't justify the $15 to buy it, though. Rebecca and My Cousin Rachel are both tremendously good reads. Though in the latter, I doubt there is an English tea. In fact, food of any kind is slightly suspect... I just read Rebecca for the first time and there is a lovely description of tea at Manderly that features crumpets.
"The feast was laid before us always, and yet we ate so little. Those dripping crumpets, I can see them now. Tiny crisp wedges of toast, and piping-hot, flaky scones. Sandwiches ... ... we could use a new fun word thread since it was so addictive last time.
