I read the majority of this on my commute, and I laughed out loud on the bus like a creep and got embarrassed. I am consistently drawn to get-shit-done, don't-give-a-fuck-what-you-think, successful, creative, and hilarious women, and Mindy Kaling has all of these qualities. A — right in my wheelhouse. Once and a while I like picking up a celebrity biography/autobiography. I enjoyed The Office and Mindy Kaling's roles and writing on it, so I figured this would be a cool book to jump into. After reading her book, I definitely want to watch The Mindy Project. Mindy seems like a fun and wickedly smart woman who has made a name for herself in Hollywood. She's an excellent writer and super funny. Her book is an easy read that feels like you're sitting down to coffee with her. She tells her story, and you can smile and nod along as you learn all about the hijinks she gets into. There's a lot of funny and a lot of heart in this book. It's not my favourite book in the world, but if you are a fan than this is definitely one you should pick up. You'll get to peek inside Mindy's brain and world for about 300 pages. In ??How to Look Spectacular: A Starlet??s Confessions,? Kaling gives her tongue-in-cheek secrets for surefire on-camera beauty, (??Your natural hair color may be appropriate for your skin tone, but this isn??t the land of appropriate??this is Hollywood, baby. (??I had been replaced by a younger model. And now they had matching bangs.?) In ??Unlikely Leading Lady,? she muses on America??s fixation with the weight of actresses, (??Most women we see onscreen are either so thin that they??re walking clavicles or so huge that their only scenes involve them breaking furniture.?) And in ??Soup Snakes,? Kaling spills some secrets on her relationship with her ex-boyfriend and close friend, B.J. Novak (??I will freely admit: my relationship with B.J. Novak is weird as hell.?) I think Mindy Kaling is very funny and she seems like a totally normal person. Her writing style is very conversational and I feel like I just had lunch with her where she told me all these funny and smart things. She talks about relationships, confidence, weight & body image, careers, and lots of her advice is great.
I want her to write a romance novel, I want her to give advice to young women everywhere, and I totally want to hang out with her.
