NO LONGER A MINORITY: LATINOS & SOCIAL POLICY IN CALIFORNIA & REDEFINING CALIFORNIA: LATINO SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT IN A MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY. Designed to be read together, these books provide an in-depth look at the Latino population in California. A broad view of the Latino population in California from 1940 to 1990, NO LONGER A MINORITY profiles this population in terms of its contributions to California society. Latinos have consistently shown high labor force participation, low labor force desertion, low welfare dependency, strong family formation, & a very good health profile. REDEFINING CALIFORNIA describes the results of the California Identity Project, a 1990 survey of Latinos & Anglos, which tracks Latino identity over three generations. This study examines the areas of family formation, ethnicity, religious affiliation & language maintenance, exploring the degree to which Latinos retain a Latino social identity. Simultaneously, this study finds that Latinos demonstrate an attachment to U.S. society, its values & goals. Anglo perception of & reactions to Latino social engagement & identity are also presented here. No library descriptions found. |
