Book 2 in Garnet Lacey

Garnet Lacey is in trouble. After the disaster the Halloween before that ended with six dead Vatican paramilitaries, the FBI has now tracked her down to her occult bookstore in Madison, WI. So now, on top of keeping the fact that her vampire ex is staying in her basement from her current vampire boyfriend, Garnet has to keep the Goddess Lilith from possessing her totally and causing more bloodshed, fend off a horde of zombie minions and concoct a love spell to make sexy FBI agent Gabriel Dominguez more willing to believe her story. But, of course, everything goes spectacularly wrong.

I really enjoyed the novel. I love paranormal chicklit for the most part, and the heroine had such a funny way of phrasing her problems that even zombies about to snack on her become hilarious. She has a great quirky worldview.

A number of the sideplots wrapped up a little to easily (zombies) while others were simply never explained (crows, William), but the portrayal of Garnet torn between too many men felt real and immediate though the other characters' reactions seemed a bit far-fetched. Is she the only woman in Wisconsin?

That and some poor editing (which always annoys me) mean it's not really a keeper, but it was a really fun read, and I'll be looking for the others in the series. ( )
