It’s impossible to pigeonhole Dawn Garcia’s book, ‘Flawless: Perfection has a Price’ in the usual category of romance—the book has surprisingly much more depth, scope and literary texture that it deserves a much more extensive treatment. But the bottom line: I enjoyed this book immensely, and I’m just glad to have stumbled into it—now I have a new book series I can look forward to reading.

At its heart, ‘Flawless’ is about the incredible journey of a woman, Kathryn Bradford, whose life I’m sure many women out there can deeply relate. Trapped in a marriage that often emotionally suffocated her, Kathryn slides down further when her husband Jonathan dies, and now it becomes a sort of a ‘Catch-22’ situation: when alive, Jonathan oppressed and smothered her; now dead, Jonathan haunts him, and it’s troubling enough to make Kathryn doubt her own sanity. Kathryn’s marital troubles compel her to retreat deep into herself: she becomes distrustful, guarded. And as if that’s not enough, there’s a daughter who looks up to her and depends on her for dear life—despite what goes on inside Kathryn’s head and deep within her heart, she must keep it together at all cost just for her daughter’s sake. In this scenario enters the captivating Jared Williamson, who happens to be interesting and irresistible enough to rekindle the fire in Kathryn’s heart. However, Kathryn is saddled with too much emotional—not to mention supernatural—baggage that the book keeps the readers on their toes about the outcome of the blooming romance between Kathryn and Jared. But that’s only for starters—get a copy of this book to see what I’m talking about.

I love how the story is crafted and written—the characters are believable and real, not a mere gallery of cardboard cut-outs you usually find in other so-called romance novels. ‘Flawless’ feels “heavy” with emotional gravitas, and it constantly nudges you forward, rising to a fever pitch by the latter half of the novel. Needless to say, this is a thoroughly satisfying read.

Overall, ‘Flawless’ is an unforgettable literary journey, a story that stays with you even long after you’ve finished reading it. I’ve found a new author to watch out for in Dawn Garcia—if her next book comes out, I’ll buy it in a heartbeat. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a great, immensely entertaining read. ‘Flawless’ deserves all the five-star ratings it gets. ( )
