Had this book been published as recently as about a decade ago, its goal might have been to help adjuncts and other contingent faculty write themselves onto the tenure track, but Gaillet and Guglielmo, realizing that enough tenure track jobs do not exist, stop short of articulating such an intention. Instead, the co-authors have offered a motivational book of empowerment: the text reminds contingent faculty that they have voices and are engaged in activities that can be spun as scholarly, particularly in ways that invoke Ernest Boyer's Scholarship Reconsidered [1990]. In short, this useful book offers ways to think creatively about scholarly engagement in manners that do not require massive resources (funds, time, status, access to scholarly materials).
