Do you want to learn how to program in an environment that's outmoded, outdated, and yet still widely used? Do you want to learn a language where it was a super big deal for programmers to not have to use an archaic holdover from punch-cards in the NINETIES? Do you want to program on something completely proprietary, where saying something like "open source" or "free software" nets you nothing but a disapproving stare and a deep sigh?

Guess what? RPG IV / AS400 is the language for you!

Programming in RPG IV is filled with many different references and examples; no matter what it is, if you need to generate a sales report, an inventory report, a grade report, or another sales report, Programming in RPG IV will be right by your side!

Seriously, though, this is a great reference text and provides a good introduction to the language. My bitterness lies not with the book or even the environment, but with the language itself and the schools and businesses that refuse to stop using it.

Although I did get a big old heart-breaking whiff of nostalgia, because MAN does it feel like you're coding in the 80s. ( )
