The story, Druthers, begins with a father and daughter stuck inside on a rainy day. The daughter was disappointed that they couldn’t do anything fun but the father explains another way to have fun. The daughter shares all of the things she’d rather be doing and they go on an imaginative adventure. The central message is that creativity and imagination can be used to do all things. ( )

A book about a rainy day and a father and daughter who use their imagination to come up with fun things to do. This would be a good book for first grade on and would be a good book to have for girls in particular.

Rain can't dampen the spirits of a little girl and her father as they act out what they'd do if it weren't raining and they "had their druthers." Short, sweet, simple, and soothing. A perfect book for sharing with a single child or a group.

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 076365955X, Hardcover)

With warmth and humor, award-winning author-illustrator Matt Phelan follows a child as she leads her daddy on some rainy-day flights of fancy.

It’s raining and raining and raining, and Penelope is bored. "What would you do if you had your druthers?" asks her daddy. Well, if Penelope had her druthers, she’d go to the zoo. Or be a cowgirl. Or a pirate captain who sails to the island of dinosaurs, or flies away on a rocket to the moon. If Penelope had her druthers, she’d go off on amazing adventures — but then again, being stuck inside may not be so bad if your daddy is along for the ride!

Challenged to use her imagination on a boring, rainy day, little Penelope shares time with her daddy while envisioning herself at the zoo, as a cowgirl, flying to the moon, and sailing to an island filled with dinosaurs.
