It's Norton, and it's Kerovan. Do we really need to say more?
It's good to see him finally starting to accept himself, to shed the blame for what his mother did before his birth. ( )

This was the first Andre Norton book I read and even though I went in with absolutely no knowledge of what had come before, I was able to connect and follow the story due to the exceptional way this tale has been done. ( )

Dedication
This book is dedicated, with many thanks, to Hope Tickell, George Tickell and Randy Crispin, who provided invaluable assistance during its writing.
First words
What does a mastersmith do when he would forge a sword or axe to fit the hard palm of a fighter?
Quotations
Birth naming ceremony:

Mother. This is your Godly child. Look upon him, name her, that s/he may have life well set before ______.
Children's Blessing:

Take sprigs of vervain & angelica, bless in fires smoke, brush each tiny foot, repeating:

Gunnora, Lady who protects women & innocents born of women, guard this child. Let not his feet carry him near the Shadow, rather let him walk in the Light in all times, & all ways.

Touch to each hand, repeating:
Let these hands work in service of Truth & Light & Life.

Brush the head:
Let this mind remain clear & untainted. Grant him the strength to naysay any thought born of Dark.

So may it be always by thy will.
