I found BACK TO BATOCHE a bright little book that makes an important moment in Canadian history interesting and accessible for younger readers, particularly those outside the Prairies, who may not be familiar with the events of the Resistance. This quick-moving novel will help readers see figures like Louis Riel and Gabriel Dumont as real people with friends and families, with rich and varied lives. There is considerable fact mixed in with the adventure, and this book will encourage at least some readers to want to learn more about the North West Resistance.
