You may find it hard to believe, but I actually read this book some while ago (my friends know when...), it exists, it is real, yet there are almost no hits on the Internet, except the page of the author and a chronicle by Alex. Ștefănescu...

Dicționar is, like the title says, a dictionary. But not a typical one - it is actually a HUGE suite of one-line poems (yes, one-line, even more extreme than haiku, done in Romanian poetry only by Ion Pillat and Șerban Foarță). One word can have several „definitions” - in some cases, even that definition does not stretch for more than three words. Looks like a typical case of extreme formalism for the sake of formalism, but it is actually an experiment with big possibilities. However, the reader needs a lot of patience, as well as default appetite for the nature of definition, although not even the poet genuinely believes in „classification”.

Let the theory aside, the book does what it says and the author is aware that it is imperfect and inflated: some lines are great, some are unremarkable, some are plain horrible. Sometimes I felt bored, sometimes I felt mad, sometimes I enjoyed it. Written by a different poet, it could be slightly better or slightly worse. My genuine grip, though, is the length - it is a tad too long, although even so it isn't as „bricky” as a real dictionary... he he he...
