pretty all right. fleming really redeemed himself at the end, but i still spent much of the book skimming in a half-soporific state of disinterest in crane's cliches (not too frequent, i'll allow) and what felt like masses of ill-written and ... ... maybe he appeals more to men than women. Although some of his war poetry are my favorites--bringing back memories of The Red Badge of Courage which I just read last month.)
Now I'm in a quandary--I don't like to quit but I have a lot of books to read and I don't want to waste time, ... ... het eerste self-help boek en gaat volgens Russell zelf vooral om het hebben van gezond verstand. Red Badge of Courage may be best for old people -- I am one, although I had childhood friends who read it before they were ten. Shakespeare's history plays can be approached for a first reading by young adults.

On the road, I finished The Wonder Spot written and read by Melissa Bank, which was okay. This week I'll start Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane. I never read it before. Hopefully it will work hearing it rather than reading it. It's the oldest book I've listened to so far. ... (fortunately?) I didn't often actually read what was assigned to me. Mostly because I did read the 8th grade assignements (Red Badge of Courage and The Old Man and the Sea) and hated them so much that I pretty much just stopped. The only assigned books I remember reading after that were Shake ... I just finished The Red Badge of Courage and really liked it. I'm going to start Money by Martin Amis now. I like him a lot so this will probably be another good book for me. ... Bock and I thought it was really, really good. I just sort of inhaled it once the weekend hit, and now I'm reading The Red Badge of Courage. I chose that one because it's a classic, because of how good it's supposed to be, but mostly because it's short and I need something I can finish ... The tall soldier made a little commonplace smile.

Robert I love reading classics, and I even enjoyed them in high school. The only book I couldn't stand was The Red Badge of Courage. I would like to re-read that someday to see if I would feel differently. Having gone back and read The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane and All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque after many years of being a soldier they make sense now.
Plan on trying Mark Twain again. ... The Odyssey, plus a lot of short fiction like The Rocking Horse Winner. I actually remember the Jr high list better : The Red Badge of Courage, The Red pony, Flowers for Algernon, Twelve Angry men,and A Raisin in the Sun. The suggestion to read other realists brought to mind Stephen Crane, especially Maggie, a girl of the streets and Red Badge of Courage, both of which I feel are reason enough to read novels.

Bleak House couldn't figure it out except for the anty-imperialist rant. I find it amazing that two of the best works of war fiction, Red Badge of Courage and The Killer Angels, were written by non-combatants.
