Fiction. Mystery. Suspense. Thriller. HTML:NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Includes bonus material

From the creator of the acclaimed Alex Delaware series comes a tour de force standalone novel that illustrates perfectly why “Jonathan Kellerman has justly earned his reputation as a master of the psychological thriller” (People).

A brilliant, deeply dedicated psychologist, Grace Blades has a gift for treating troubled souls and tormented psyches—perhaps because she bears her own invisible scars: Only five years old when she witnessed her parents’ deaths in a bloody murder-suicide, Grace took refuge in her fierce intellect and found comfort in the loving couple who adopted her. But even as an adult with an accomplished professional life, Grace still has a dark, secret side. When her two worlds shockingly converge, Grace’s harrowing past returns with a vengeance.

Both Grace and her newest patient are stunned when they recognize each other from a recent encounter. Haunted by his bleak past, mild-mannered Andrew Toner is desperate for Grace’s renowned therapeutic expertise and more than willing to ignore their connection. And while Grace is tempted to explore his case, which seems to eerily echo her grim early years, she refuses—a decision she regrets when a homicide detective appears on her doorstep.

An evil she thought she’d outrun has reared its head again, but Grace fears that a police inquiry will expose her double life. Launching her own personal investigation leads her to a murderously manipulative foe, one whose warped craving for power forces Grace back into the chaos and madness she’d long ago fled.

I received a free uncorrected proof ARC copy of [b: The Murder's Daughter|6674372|The Murderer's Daughters|Randy Susan Meyers|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1437274492s/6674372.jpg|6869461] by [a: Jonathan Kellerman|43626|Jonathan Kellerman|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1320951950p2/43626.jpg] through membership in NetGalley. I give honest reviews based on my reaction as a voracious reader, no spoilers.

I have been reading Jonathan Kellerman since the 1980's and have never read a book of his I did not like. From the moment of opening the cover, I was propelled forward into the vehicle of his stories, and good writing. Psychiatrist Alex Delaware has usually been the main protagonist, along with his Detective friend Milo Sturgis in a majority of the thirty or so "cases" they worked on together. Although there was a bit of a pattern to the way the plot worked, I was not bored, and could rarely guess what was coming. Also, [a: Jonathan Kellerman|43626|Jonathan Kellerman|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1320951950p2/43626.jpg] is excellent at maintaining sub-plots which have also successfully spanned the years.

The past few years have deluged the book markets with new authors and e-books, so I think I have missed a couple of the most recent books by Jonathan Kellerman, so I cannot truthfully say if the point of view in [title: The Murderer's Daughter] is brand new, but WOW!

Talk about a book hangover, I finished this book three days ago, am reading three other books, have finished one other and I cannot stop thinking about Dr. Grace Blades, or "Grace;" the main protagonist.

Her life beginnings did not bode well. If she had sought any type of emotional connection to her self-involved parents, she would have been doomed. She was an old child, and hurdles the impossible to make it to majority. She luckily meets some caring individuals along the way that provide some nurturing - and help her gain invaluable tools for adulthood.

Content: There is violence, but done in such a way that those who wish can self-censor over the worst, but not bloody, chopping, chain-saw type violence. The reader may find themselves rooting for some of the homicide. Sex: There is sex, again it is done in such a way that one does not have to continually pull out the anti-bacterial wipes. ( )

Just too good (and smart, and rich and good looking etc) to be true....with characters like these there's no need for a police force.... ( )

This was my first Kellerman so I don't have anything to compare it to. I liked this book. The flashbacks were sometimes abrupt and jarring but, mostly, I liked the main character enough to let my irritation go. Grace Blades is brilliant and damaged and knows her mind so well that I immediately liked her. This book wasn't perfect but I truly enjoyed the quick-paced ride to the end. ( )

This was my first time reading a non-Alex Delaware novel by Jonathan Kellerman and I really enjoyed it. At first, I was a little confused because I didn't realize that I wasn't reading an ADN, so when Alex only made a brief cameo and Milo was just a mention -- and not even by name -- I felt hoodwinked but I found myself relating to Grace the more I read (not in the traumatic/murderous way though, haha) and that made a light bulb go off for me personally. I was a little weirded out over it at first because it was the first time I'd come across anyone, real or fictional, who thought/felt the same way about social interaction as I did/do. Same with her knack for learning things. It was like "ARE YOU ME?!" haha! I think that's one of the cool things about Kellerman being a psychologist IRL. His characters are believable and always seem to be like people you've known or in this case, it felt like I could have been reading about my Alternate Reality Self. Anyway, being able to relate to her drew me into the book and kept my attention even when it started to get crazy with her high-risk behavior. And then when the action started, it got crazy in a good way and I'm glad I kept reading.

One point I'd like to make is that the way the flashbacks of Grace's childhood are intertwined with her present-day reality makes the book so much more interesting to read, especially since the real action of the book takes place in what seems like less than a week. From the start, we find out that her life is basically littered with murders and death at very key points and so when it's time for her to kill, it's not that out of place for someone like her to flip the switch to make the quick decision to kill or be killed.

10/10 would recommend.

And now I'm off to find more non-AD books to read by Kellerman because reasons.
