This is a story about a wolf named Winston who loves to eat books because the words are so delicious. He gets trapped in a library, but a girl named Rosie helps him to escape. Rosie teaches Winston a new way to enjoy words by teaching him how to eat them with his “eyes.”
This is a great story because it motivates children to want to learn how to read and creates excitement about the variety of books available to them!

Silly take on the little red riding hood story. Winston the wolf is not allowed in the library because he eats the books and chomps on the delicious words. A little girl in a red hoodie decides that Winston needs to learn how to eat words with his eye, so she teaches him to read. He can't go back to the library though, the no wolves allowed sign is still up, so he dresses up in Rosies Grandma's long skirt dress and floppy hat and becomes the new story lady. ( )

Book description

Devour a good book!
In this clever take-off on Little Red Riding Hood, the big bad wolf is the very hungry Winston who likes to eat books! When the librarian scolds him for this naughty behavior, Rosie (who wears a familiar red hoodie), rescues him and takes him out into the woods to teach him how to read books, not eat books. Winston grows to love reading and is soon devouring books with his eyes, and reading them (disguised as Granny Winston) to groups of children at the library.  This hilarious book, complete with fabulous art and a die-cut cover highlights the importance of books and the joy of reading!
