Dennis is a nine year old boy who is visited by the ghost of his deceased Uncle Arvie in hopes that he will fulfill his three pleases (wishes). Dennis doesn’t mind the many ghosts who frequently visit his room, but he really wishes to see the ghost of his own father who died in the last year. When his Uncle Arvie’s ghost visits, Dennis struggles to understand him since Uncle Arvie speaks in gibberish due to his stroke he had while living. Dennis works hard to find patterns in his speech to discern what unfinished business Uncle Arvie needs completed. The gibberish is nonsensical talk that makes it difficult and sometimes frustrating for the reader to follow the story, to the point that you may skip over that dialogue to get to interpretation. However, the character of Dennis has patience to not only work hard to help his Uncle, but also struggles to get others to “see” him as well. This is a friendly ghost story that might be a nice introduction to this genre for an elementary school reader as it is light and tame. ( )Nine-year-old Dennis, whose uncle and father died within a year of one another, is visited by the ghost of his uncle, and together they settle some unfinished business. This is a very good book about a boys uncle coming back to life and the boy has to do three favors for his uncle. This book is A.R. no reviews | add a review
