Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte Because they're classics written by women. I'm sorely lacking in having read classics by women. Or classics altogether, but I feel guiltier about these for some reason. Anna Karenina ...

Thanks. I'll give it a try. Right now it's Wuthering Heights but I don't really have a next one. Thanks for the recommend.

Finished Wuthering Heights last night, wich I loved. Started reading The Boy Who Wanted to Be One of the Boys by Lars Saabye Christensen; an assigned reading for school.

56) Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte This is such a dark and tragic tale! Filled with forbidden love, revenge, hate, jelousy, cruelty and deep and complex characters, it really drags you right in. Heathcliff must be the ultimate badboy! He's dark, dangerous, ruggedly handsome (that's how I ...

I finally managed to finish Wuthering Heights, on Friday I had to stop with only one and a half chapters left, but then was the weekend and the last two days were really busy, so today was my first opportunity to get back to it. I've thought I might take a break from all the Bronte and try some D ...

... what others have mentioned; it wasn't great. While the movie was pure magic, and the book was simply.. not. Started reading Wuthering Heights, I'm only a few pages in though.

Just noticed that the spreadsheet lists Anne Bronte as author of Wuthering Heights (No. 358). Should be Emily.

... elaborate than "I don't get it," hahaha... It's primarily poetry, and I'm super prose-minded, so even if I do end up hating Wuthering Heights or any of the other assigned novels, I'll be grateful for the simple fact that it's NOT poetry!

That's excellent! I love Austen. Three down, three to go. The TN books made me really want to read Wuthering Heights. It's been in my TBR pile for some time now. I just haven't gotten to it.

... for my own good and mostly have nothing to do. So between projects I'm back to old gutenberg.org; this time I'm reading Wuthering Heights and then I'm thinking I'll move on to some Dickens, between Doctor Who and Fforde I feel like I'm woefully uninformed when it comes to him! E ...

Only one book for me today, Wuthering Heights, from the library.

I'm watching the Foyle's War series featuring Michael Kitchen. I might just be tempted to listen to Wuthering Heights now!

53) Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (audiobook)--I tried to actually read this a couple of times in high school but never got past the first chapter. Even though I'm not a huge fan of audiobooks (too slow and I don't have the patience), I am a huge fan of Michael Kitchen, who was the ...

I remember loving Wuthering Heights when I read it a few years ago, but I also recall experiencing a great deal of confusion. I'd gotten the impression that it was practically compulsory for every young female to swoon over the romantic Heathcliff. All I saw was a sociopath. Honestly. Hanging I ...

I haven't read this book for many years, but I loved it when I did. I also loved Heathclff. I need to get a copy of Wuthering Heights and read it again ~

Loved Wuthering Heights. Read it in my early 30s and it got me into Jane Austin and Forster.

I read Wuthering Heights shortly after college. I realized I was finished with my formal education but knew very little about classic literature and set out to educate myself. It only lasted about a year, and I probably didn't read more than a half dozen "classic" novels, but this was one of ...

I am one of those in the hating Wuthering Heights camp. I have never understood its appeal - I find none of the characters even likeable. I have tried the book both in audio and print forms and have just come to the conclusion that it is not for me. On the other hand, I love Jane Eyre.

I have fond memories of first reading "Wuthering Heights", when I was in 8th/9th grade (Borrowed that book from a neighborhood branch of the Denver Public Library. I also really like "Jane Eyre", by Charlotte Bronte, which I found & read after watching a film version while babysitting one New ...

I'm still slogging through Wuthering Heights and The Princess of Cleves. The first is taking me a while to get into, and the second is changing my first impressions- that of light and fluffy- which I was warned about. :) I need something fun and frothy to offset both of these, but can't ...

I've begun Wuthering Heights. It seems to be a bit slow in starting, but I am hopeful that it will pick up soon; I am only three chapters in. I also began The Princess of Cleves last night, which appears to be a sweet, fluffy sort of story. At least, that's the way it appears from the ...

Sandydog1 in Awful Lit. : Awful Classics? (Jul 10, 2008, 11:24am)

Right on, CarlosMcRey. I am not very familiar with old, gothic novels but I thought Wuthering Heights was a great book. Yes it is over the top and has some unpleasant characters, but I enjoyed reading it.

I have Women in Love and Woman in White in my TBR pile. Of those I've read, I would have to go with Wuthering Heights.

... but I can't quite seem to get into it at the moment. Guess it's time to pull Marius (my Kindle) back out and start on Wuthering Heights. :)

CarlosMcRey in Awful Lit. : Awful Classics? (Jul 10, 2008, 12:47am)

I don't know if this is really appropriate, but I really felt like standing up for Wuthering Heights and especially poor, misunderstood Heathcliff. Not misunderstood because I think he's a sensitive soul, but misunderstood because he's a monster who people seem to compare with Mr. Darcy. I ...

I've just finished Seamus Heaney's Beowulf translation (brilliant brilliant brilliant) and have started Wuthering Heights for Go Review that Book! I've also been hitting the Wainwrights, especially A pictorial guide to the lakeland fells: the Northern Fells, cos we're off there in just ...

I'm about 2/3 of the way through Persuasion and hope to start Wuthering Heights in the next couple of days. I also found a copy of The Night Life of the Gods that looks hilarious, so I'll probably start that soon, too.

One of the best things about Wuthering Heights is that it inspired the Wuthering Heights Anger Management scene in The Well of Lost Plots, which is absolutely hilarious, but probably not as funny if you haven't read Wuthering Heights.

I too, really enjoyed the ghosts, angst, brooding, resentment of Wuthering Heights. I read classics on my own (not for academic reasons). I frequently refer to on-line study guides. That sounds like a lot of work, but it's in a way, a lazy reaction. I sometimes don't like to intently study ...

Anyone else have summer reading for AP English next year? My class has been assigned Wuthering Heights and The Beggar.

I read Wuthering Heights in a Women in Pop Culture class in college. We had to write papers comparing it to modern romance novels. That was a really fun project (I'm a nerd, I know), which helped me appreciate the novel. It's not very romantic, of course, but it was interesting learning how it ...
